'twas nice to see the Dogs lose the extra inning affair last night! Fry the pen and lose the game ... lose/lose for the Dogs = win/win for the Pads!

George Kottaras is on the board @ AAA Portland with an RBI double and a HR in lastnight’s game … http://tinyurl.com/ntz2h

Way to go, George!

Worth noting, too, is that the callup of Kottaras to AAA ripled down to Colt Morton getting promoted to AA Mobile and Nick Hundley to Hi-A Lake Elsinore … worth keeping an eye on how all 3 of them do at their new level!

What happened with Huff, isn't that a dude we wanted and the stros got him for next to nothing. Was KT on the ball. What happened????

Egad, my picture showed up in comments. That blows my cover of being a younger man.

I'm 100% sure that "KT was on the ball"! At the 2005 PF, KT made it clear that dealing with TB was flaky ... but he did it. To me, I'm sure they (TB) just didn't want what the Padres were willing to part with ... perhaps it was them that was insisting on Linebrink! (and I think the Reds/Nats deal shows that some teams *HIGHLY* value relief pitching, and I think the Padres & Reds are 2 of those teams, and I think that's a healthy commodity to value)

When I saw the Reds/Nats deal all I could think was "Wow, what must Scott Linebrink be worth about now?" If his value is as high as it seems to be right now, I would have no nproblem with the PAdres dealing him. Getting a 3B for the present and future has got to be a priority for the Pads, and there is not going to be any free-agent help of note in the offseason.

In other news, Boston radio apparently reported that Klesko for Rudy Seanez is a possibility. I'd be excited to have Rudy back after the year that he put together for us last year, especially if the BoSox are willing to pick up a little of Ryno's salary.

An exciting day for Xavier Nady ... he got plunked by Greg Maddux :-)

Hey, I'd enjoy having that on *my* resume ... http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore?gid=260714116

Hey guys

Good to see some kind of comment post back up. GY -- great job on the midseason reviews.

Re: Klesko for Seanez. Couldn't we get more for RK? Seanez isn't having a great year. It's pretty apparent the only place he's lights out is SD!

did anyone see the article on scout.com about the padres trading their top prospect?

Rudy's still got the big K numbers. He's giving up more hits, which could be random. I'd rather have a healthy Klesko coming off the bench late in games, but the Padres have made him an Untouchable.

Thanks, guys. It's great to "hear" from y'all again. :-) Blogging without comments stinks.

On another positive note, I expect to have the regular site up and running again sometime tomorrow afternoon. Thanks again for bearing with me!

Hmmm, not the best way to start the second half.

Holy smokes, Adrian got all of that one! Brand new ballgame.

I haven't been watching Young much, but does he throw any other pitcher other than a fastball? I mean my god, no wonder they're hitting bombs left and right off the guy. He's got one pitch it seems.

Yahoo's showing Adrian's AB in bottom of 5th resulted in "lined out to deep center" ... how close to HR #3?

Hey, LM,
Flyin' to PDX tomorrow. Hope to get to PGE tomorrow evening. Who's pitchin'? Who's hot?

dprat - cool! I'm 2 hours south of Portland (in Corvallis) ... so I don't really follow the Beaver's as a "home team" so I don't know their rotation ... Thompson's pitching tonight ... http://tinyurl.com/hp7yj ... not well, but bailed out by 2 HRs by McAnulty (playing 3B again!!!) ... and an HR by Sledge ... when you go see the Beavers, it's more for the offense than the pitching :-)

I'll post a scouting report after the Beavers game... fair-warning, most near-sighted scout ever.

BTW, when did Petco become a homer dome? Did they use the ASB to sneak the fences in about 30'?

Gonzalez hit that ball to the warning track -- he hit it very hard. Too bad Piazza's washed up, eh? ;-)

We're seeing the value of good middle relief pitching right before our eyes!!!

Damn, Bellhorn just missed that one. It's all up to Barfield.

Free baseball!

This has gotta be the highest scoring extra inning game @ Petco ... 11-11 after 9!

How long can Sikorski go?

Who's left in the pen?

10:53 PM
Blogger Howard Lynch said...

If it's still 11-11, let Sikorski bat in bottom of 10th? I don't think we have a choice ...

10:54 PM

Oops, never mind ... 12-11 Braves ...

OK, so how'd Brocail get on the roster?

11:02 PM

Brocail was activated before the game; Cassidy optioned to Portland.

This is epic. Runners at the corners, nobody out. Gonzalez has already hit two bombs, Atlanta has nobody warming up in the bullpen. Hensley is warming up for the Pads if needed.

Hensley is needed.

Barfield kicks a potential inning-ending double play. I'm not sure they could've turned two, but even one would've been nice.

Epic? Epic will be if we come back and tie it *again* :-)

Really tough loss last night. Great game -- hopefully they can bounce back today.

The game was on TBS, and I was up for most of it feeding my kids (and giving them their first exposure to the Pads!)

I guess the moral of last night's game is that if you get behind enough times, you're going to lose.

Also, say what you want about the Braves, but they can definitely hit. The Pads should have been able to pull it out against Sosa -- he was terrible.

By the way, Josh Bard is awesome. That double he hit to tie the score was a thing of beauty.
